Organizational Goals

Organizations annually outlay significant budget amounts to implement “learning engagements,” or training programs, to improve the skills of their employees in a variety of specialized or technical areas. The following are among the highlights of a survey conducted among nearly 500 decision makers and influencers of learning program initiatives in U.S. commercial and government organizations:

The importance of aligning learning initiatives with organizational goals is widely acknowledged, but not put into practice by a large majority of organizations. This shortcoming during the planning stage has a large impact on many areas, including executive support, sustaining funding and adoption rates, to name a few.
The failure to create and adopt criteria and success metrics for learning programs severely hinders the ability to measure their outcomes and overall value to the organization. The inability to perform this rather basic planning activity—identifying what to measure to determine future success or failure—is prevalent but slowly changing.
Appropriate skills, tools and processes to implement and measure learning engagements offer organizations a more robust foundation upon which to make budgetary decisions, especially critical in the current economy.
Selecting a training provider to help implement best practices, including post training to maximize adoption, is critical to optimize learning investment and return.
